Emerging Scientists and Engineers Investigate

Each week of the Emerging Scientists and Engineers Investigate strand will provide a self-contained set of stimulating and fun STEM challenges which will provide an interdisciplinary approach to real problems to be tackled by small teams. Although the overall theme for the weeks will remain the same, each week will be different in terms of its specific content and challenges drawing on different expert leaders.

Space Engineering: The Challenges of Building a Planetary Rover

In recent years the space industry has greatly expanded, with hundreds of new companies competing to launch satellites, astronauts and interplanetary missions. With the number of exciting job opportunities available, what skills are needed to become part of the industry?

Building a space vehicle requires creative experts in engineering, physics, electronics, programming, life sciences, and more. During this course we will investigate all of these subjects and put them to work in building our own Mars rover!

Each week will be self-contained in respect of its content but students following a two-week programme will be able to develop deeper project interpretations with different leaders. Key content areas will include:
